RX-7

Macross II Background

The RX-7 is an old UN Spacy mecha used in the 2050s. The RX-7's was used for mining and police duty. It was sold cheaply to almost anyone who could buy them. The Giovanni bought a large number of them. The Giovanni transformed them into a light combat mecha.

The RX-7 has no armament. However the Giovanni equipped their units with a steel rod, some 15-feet long. Although not a threat to large mecha like Valkyries and other destroids. It was perhaps one of the most balanced mecha and was more than a threat in hand to hand. Since the Giovanni love close combat, the RX-7 were the perfect war mecha.

Indeed the RX-7 was for a long time the only mecha produced by the Giovanni (other than the locusts). RX-7 pilots are seen as faithful and honorable.

Since 2091, the RX-7 are being phased out as a military battloid in favor of the better armored and equipped RX-72. However, many units have refused to change to the RX-72.
